Hello AKCP Support Team,

What are the recommended hardware specifications for a VM (Virtual Machine) that the APS (AKCPro Server software) will be installed on?

Thanks!

Hello AKCP Customer,

Regarding the VM specs, see below for a general recommendation:

2-4 vCPUs and 4-8 GB RAM

We recommend 8 GB RAM if using modern Windows versions after 2012; the number of CPUs doesn’t matter that much since APS is not multi-threaded. Typical APS memory usage is around 200 MB, with a lot of hosts and sensors this might go up to 512MB-1 GB. But using 8 GB will allow Windows to work mostly without using the virtual memory (swap file), speeding it up.

What could make a bigger difference is using the VM priority or VM weight setting in the hypervisor. This would allow more CPU resources to be allocated to the APS VM, ensuring it gets more slices of the shared CPU power. Setting this differ between each virtualization platform, and some doesn’t even support it.

Some examples:

VMware Workstation

VMware vSphere

Hyper-V

VirtualBox (not directly supports it)

We hope this helps you further.
