Hello AKCP Support,

I have an SPX+ with the Modbus RS485 port. My question, is it possible while reading Modbus data via RS485 (3rd party Modbus device and Virtual Sensor Modbus) on the one hand, can it manage a device by sending a command via RS485 Modbus (Modbus Write Notification Action) when an error occurs?

Thanks!

Dear AKCP Customer,

Thank you for your questions on this. Yes, that is possible. The features you mentioned correspond to the functionalities of a Modbus Master.

Please keep in mind our SP+ units support both Modbus Master & Modbus Slave, however not simultaneously. Please check the details in our “SP+ Modbus” manual on our website support portal for more details on this.

Modbus RS485 devices monitoring can be achieved using the 3rd Party Modbus Device and the Virtual Sensor Modbus features. Moreover, Modbus RS485 devices controlling can be achieved using the Modbus Write Notification Action.

Here is the general overview configuration idea:
1) Monitor the Voltage Information of the Modbus RS485 equipment using the Modbus RS485 Virtual sensor feature.

2) Create a Modbus RS485 action with a shutdown command with the Notification Action feature.

3) Set up a notification rule to trigger the shutdown command and notify the responsible individuals if the voltage exceeds the specified limit.

As noted above, please also refer to our SP+ Modbus manual & SP+ Notifications manuals for more details & the screen shots on setting up Modbus Master & Slave, specific steps and running the notification wizards and linking the sensors. These can be downloaded from our website support portal here: https://forum.akcp.com/support-center/customer-login/

Kind regards,
