Dear AKCP Support,
I have a customer who has recently received 4 SPX+ units with sms modem who has problems.
None of the 4 devices have working sms modems. They have used modems with 4 different providers of teleservices, but none provide sending of sms from modems. The customer is very experienced in setting up and operating the SPX+ platform, as they have installed and programmed 5 data centers with this type of equipment themselves. All other data centers with similar equipment work fine.
Have any changes been made to the sms modem system for the last deliveries?
Are there any changes – I can’t find any – in the setup of the SMS modem for sending SMS?
Do you need support files from the devices?
Best regards,
AKCP Dealer

Hello Valued Dealer,
Thank you for letting us know about this issue.
There should have not been any changes to the internal modems. Normally these are solved with the console function.
Please go through the following list of troubleshooting steps below.
#1. Make sure your SP+ is running the latest firmware on our website support portal: https://www.akcp.com/support-center/customer-login/ & also check the SP+ Knowledge Base here: https://www.akcp.com/knowledge-base/sensorprobe-plus-series-knowledge-base/
And check the SP+ product manuals on our support portal to ensure you have setup the SMS actions correctly.
#2. Check that your SP+ unit’s external AC power supply is working properly by measuring the output (5.5VDC) with a multimeter and that the unit is functioning normally other than the SMS issue.
#3. Test the SIM card you are using on your mobile phone or device to ensure it is working, can send SMS to the numbers you have configured (SMS action on unit).
#4. Check with your GSM provider on this SIM card’s credit balance and also if the SIM card has a PIN code. If it has a PIN code, this needs to be disabled.
#5. Make sure the AC adapter is disconnected, or the PoE is disconnected BEFORE inserting the SIM card from your GSM provider into the SP+ SIM card slot.
#6. Ensure the external antenna is securely connected to the antenna port on the SP+ unit.
#7. Check the signal strength from where the SP+ unit has been installed to your GSM provider using your mobile phone or device.
#8. Insure you ordered the correct AKCP modem type for your region. https://www.worldtimezone.com/gsm.html
#9. Test the text to speech call.
#9. If all the above looks correct, the SIM status shows the statis is good in the unit’s web UI and the call is working but the SMS fails with the error message “SMS sending failed, wrong response”
The following steps should be tried;
Note: These procedures only work on the SIMCOM type internal modems & the H7 type SP+.
Steps to change the SP+ H7 devices modem SMS sending mode in case the modem has good signal, valid SIM credit but fail to send SMS with “SMS sending failed, wrong response” in the event logs.
1) Upgrade the device to public release firmware v1.0.6028 (or higher)
2) Go to Settings => Maintenance => Console => OPEN CONSOLE
3) Paste the following command to change the SMS sending method from Packet Switching (PS) to Circuit Switching (CS), press Enter.
modem_cfg_sms cs
4) The console must show “>0 OK” below.
> 0
OK
5) Unplug the units power supply, wait 30 seconds then reconnect it. This is required to fully restart the modem and to apply the new SMS sending method (Only needed once after executing the “modem_cfg_sms cs”)
6) Power on the unit, test SMS sending.
If all the above fails to resolve the issues, then please send an email to us at support@akcp.com AND confirm all the above steps, the details of each and the support file from the unit.
Best regards,
