Dear AKCP Support Team,
We currently have an AKCP SPXN+ (H7) device in our environment, with the firmware version 1.0.6086, dated February 29, 2024. We are aware that the latest firmware version was released in July 2025, and we are conducting an internal review to facilitate the firmware update.
We are in the process of configuring the time synchronization component of the device with an NTP server.
We found the “SPX+ Introduction Manual.pdf” on your official website, which includes a section on “Date/Time.”
The NTP IP addresses have been entered into our AKCP device configuration, and we can confirm that synchronization with our NTP servers is successful.
However, we noticed a section on “NTP Authentication” in the AKCP interface, the referenced document lacks details regarding the type of key ID and NTP Password.
We have entered an NTP Key ID along with a password using ASCII, MD5 hash, and SHA-1 hash on both the AKCP device and the NTP server.
Unfortunately, our device is unable to synchronize with the NTP server when NTP authentication is enabled.
Could you please clarify what type of NTP authentication key is required (MD5 or SHA-1)?
Additionally, should the “NTP Password” field contain the password in ASCII format, MD5 hash, or SHA-1 hash of the NTP authentication key?
Thank you for your assistance.

Hello Valued Customer,
Our devices support NTP authentication using MD5 encryption. The “NTP Password” field on the device configuration page requires the password to be entered in its plain ASCII format.
Your SPXN+ will then handle the MD5 hashing process automatically when it communicates with the NTP server.
SHA-1 is not a supported method for NTP authentication on our platform.
How to Configure.
For the authentication to succeed, the settings on your SPXN+ must exactly match the configuration on your NTP server.
Here’s how you should set it up:
1. On your NTP Server: Ensure you have an authentication key configured with a specific Key ID (a number) and a password (secret key), using the MD5 algorithm.
2. On your AKCP SPXN+ device:
• Navigate to the Date / Time settings page.
• Check the box to Enable NTP Authentication.
• In the NTP Key ID field, enter the exact same number that is configured on your NTP server.
• In the NTP Password field, enter the exact same password in plain ASCII text.
For example, if your NTP server is configured with Key ID 25 and the password NTPp@ssw0rd using MD5, you would enter 25 as the Key ID and NTPp@ssw0rd as the password on your AKCP device. The sync should then work correctly.
Please note that if the NTP server has authentication disabled, the SPXN+ must have NTP Authentication disabled as well.
We hope this helps and please let us know if you have further questions on this.
Best regards,
AKCP Support Team
