They also want to have one central site that can monitor multiple sites, is this possible?

Thanks for your questions on this and please see below for the details on both questions.
When you’re using VPN to connect remote client units to centralized APS installation, only the VPN port needs to be opened publicly for the APS server (default 1194 TCP but this can be customized), all other traffic and protocols will travel within the VPN tunnel, so there’s no need to open other ports.
Note that the APS VPN settings will depend on the user’s choice when setting up the VPN parameters. The default VPN port is 1194 UDP but it can be changed as required.
Only the APS VPN port needs to be opened publicly on the firewall, so that a remote SP+ device could connect to it (see the diagram in the manual below).
