Hello AKCP,
We have some older SPX+ F4 & F7 type units and are planning to upgrade them to the latest SPX+ H7 type units. The reason is the F4 units don’t support some features we require and also a couple of the newer AKCP sensors.
Our question is can we use the backup configuration files from the F4 & F7 units to restore or upload to the new H7 units?
Thanks for helping.

Dear AKCP Customer,
Thank you for contacting us and your question.
We allow restoring F7 to H7 and the configurations with some flexibility.
While the main device type needs to match (SP2+ to SP2+ & SPX+ to SPX+), the PCards (sensor modules), Expansion Boards and internal sensors can differ.
Here are the 3 main device types that we support for F7 to H7 backup restoration:
SP2+ F7 ==> SP2+ H7
SP2+ Exp F7 ==> SP2+ Exp H7
SPX+ F7 ==> SPX+ H7
Regarding the older F4 devices, it may be possible depending on the units configuration. You would need to contact our support team for these details.
Most of the configuration files will be restored except passwords and VPN settings.
When restoring a backup file from a different device, we recommend selecting the “Provided backup file is generated from another device” option.
This ensures that the configurations are migrated properly, taking into account the different MAC addresses and internal hardware information of the SPX+ and PCards.
This option above automatically skips restoring the licenses because we link the licenses to the units MAC address. Not selecting this option means the restoration won’t work correctly.
Regarding the SP+ current licenses.
In the scenario of upgrading older F4/F7 devices to the newer H7, we recommend you inform us regarding the licenses you would like to have and then we will pre-install them in our production process before shipping.
You can then simply restore the backup file and continue using the device without needing to re-add the licenses.
Please refer to the SP+ product manuals on our website support portal for the specific steps on how to create the backup configuration files and restoring them.
If you have any further questions about this, or need further assistance please contact our support team (support@akcp.com) and we will get back to you within 24 hours.
Best regards,
